As I reflect on the last forty years that I have served you as the President/CEO of your Credit Union, I think about the many milestones we have accomplished and the many friends I have made.
When I was hired in September of 1980, assets were about $300,000, we were open three afternoons a week, transactions were manually entered on individual member ledger cards, and we used calculators to balance member accounts to the general ledger. As of November 2021, our assets are over $22 Million.

A Letter From Our CEO/President

As I reflect on the last forty years that I have served you as the President/CEO of your Credit Union, I think about the many milestones we have accomplished and the many friends I have made.

When I was hired in September of 1980, assets were about $300,000, we were open three afternoons a week, transactions were manually entered on individual member ledger cards, and we used calculators to balance member accounts to the general ledger. As of November 2021, our assets are over $22 Million.

Within a couple years, we purchased an in-house computer system from Computer Marketing Corporation. As of today, we are with the same company, just many upgrades later. In 1995 we purchased land on SE 4th street, built the building and moved into our current location. When we moved to this location, the street was gravel, and we had no neighbors, but it was the ideal access for our railroaders. Since then, we have expanded our membership field and our location is still ideal.

My primary goal as the CEO has been and continues to be, offering you, our members/owners, the services, and products you want and need in your everyday life, while maintaining reserves and capital.

Throughout my years of service to our Credit Union and the Credit Union movement, my priority has been promoting and protecting the Credit Union philosophy of “not for profit but for service”. I have served on many state and local boards and committees promoting and supporting another Credit Union philosophy of “people helping people”. Some of these include CUAC (Credit Union Advocacy Committee), Midland Empire Chapter of Credit Unions member/Board officer, Laurel Community Hope Board of Directors, LURA (Laurel Urban Renewal Agency), Laurel Chamber of Commerce member and numerous MCUN (Montana Credit Union Network) committees.

I have set June 30th, 2022, as my retirement date. While I don’t have any immediate travel plans, I hope to visit and spend more time with family and friends. I do have a bucket list: visit the family farm in Norway where my father was born and raised; visit Ellis Island and see my dad’s signature in the immigration book and tour ground Zero—I will never forget that day.

I would like to thank all of you who have served as volunteers through the years. You have helped the Credit Union maintain our “Not for Profit but for Service” philosophy stay alive and well.

Janice
